  1. My great strength, O Lord, I have a deep love for you.
  2. The Lord is my sturdy rock, my secure castle, and my rescuer; my God, my power, in whom I will place all my trust. He is my protective shield, the strong hand that saves me, and my safe refuge up high.
  3. I will call out to the Lord, who deserves all praise. When I do, I will be saved from my adversaries.
  4. The overwhelming pains of death surrounded me, and powerful attacks from wicked people filled me with fear.
  5. I was encircled by dangers as deep as the grave itself; death's traps suddenly appeared before me.
  6. In my deep trouble, I cried out to the Lord; I called to my God for help. He heard my voice from his holy dwelling, and my desperate plea reached his ears.
  7. Then the earth shook and trembled; even the very foundations of the mountains moved and were rocked because God was very angry.
  8. Smoke billowed from his nose, and consuming fire erupted from his mouth, setting ablaze burning coals.
  9. He bent the heavens downward and descended, with thick darkness beneath his feet.
  10. He rode on a winged creature and soared through the air; yes, he flew swiftly on the currents of the wind.
  11. He made darkness his secret hiding place; his tent around him was made of gloomy waters and dense storm clouds.
  12. From the brilliant light shining before him, his thick clouds parted, bringing forth hailstones and flashes of fire.
  13. The Lord also roared with thunder from the skies, and the Most High made his voice heard, accompanied by hailstones and fiery bolts.
  14. Indeed, he shot out his arrows, scattering them; he sent out lightning, causing confusion and defeat among them.
  15. Then the seabeds became visible, and the foundations of the world were uncovered, Lord, at your sharp scolding, at the powerful breath from your nostrils.
  16. From above, he reached down for me, pulling me out from treacherous, overwhelming waters.
  17. He rescued me from my formidable adversary and from those who hated me, because they were far too mighty for me.
  18. They attacked me when I was in my time of trouble, but the Lord was there to support me.
  19. He also brought me to a wide, open space of safety; he rescued me because he took pleasure in me.
  20. The Lord rewarded me for my uprightness; he repaid me because my actions were blameless.
  21. For I have followed the Lord's paths and have not turned away from my God in wickedness.
  22. All his rules were constantly before me, and I did not push his commands away.
  23. I was also faultless in his presence, and I kept myself from doing wrong.
  24. Therefore, the Lord has compensated me according to my honest living, according to my clean actions in his sight.
  25. To those who show kindness, you will show yourself kind; to an honest person, you will show yourself honest.
  26. To those who are pure, you will show yourself pure; but with the crooked, you will deal in a way that matches their stubbornness.
  27. For you will save humble people, but you will bring down those who are arrogant.
  28. For you, Lord, will light up my way; my God will turn my darkness into light.
  29. With your help, I have charged through enemy forces, and by my God, I have leaped over tall walls.
  30. As for God, his way is perfect; the promises of the Lord are proven true. He is a protector for everyone who trusts in him.
  31. For who is truly God except the Lord? And who is a secure foundation apart from our God?
  32. It is God who wraps me with strength and makes my journey perfect.
  33. He makes my feet as swift and agile as a deer's, and sets me safely on high ground.
  34. He trains my hands for battle, so that my arms can even break a strong metal bow.
  35. You have also given me the shield of your saving power; your strong hand has held me up, and your gentle care has made me successful.
  36. You have made my path wide beneath me, so that my steps would not falter.
  37. I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not turn back until they were completely destroyed.
  38. I struck them down so that they could not get up; they lay defeated beneath my feet.
  39. For you armed me with strength for the fight; you forced those who rose against me to surrender.
  40. You also made my enemies turn their backs in defeat, so I could destroy those who hated me.
  41. They cried out, but no one was there to save them; they even called to the Lord, but he did not answer them.
  42. Then I crushed them as fine as dust swept away by the wind; I threw them out like dirt in the streets.
  43. You rescued me from conflicts among the people, and you have made me leader over many nations; people I never knew will serve me.
  44. As soon as they hear about me, they will obey me; foreigners will respectfully submit to me.
  45. These foreign peoples will lose their strength and come trembling out of their hiding places.
  46. The Lord lives! May my rock be praised, and may the God who saves me be honored greatly!
  47. It is God who gives me justice and brings nations under my authority.
  48. He frees me from my enemies; indeed, you lift me above those who stand against me. You have saved me from violent people.
  49. Therefore, I will give thanks to you, Lord, among the other nations, and I will sing praises to your name.
  50. He grants mighty victories to his chosen king, showing faithful love to his anointed one, to David and to his descendants forever.
