Ruth

The Book of Ruth tells a heartwarming story of devotion and God’s unseen guidance, set during a challenging period in ancient Israel when judges governed the land. It focuses on a young woman from Moab named Ruth, who shows incredible loyalty to her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi, after both their husbands die. Together, they leave their home in Moab and return to Naomi’s hometown of Bethlehem. In Bethlehem, Ruth’s unwavering character and hard work capture the attention of a kind and wealthy relative of Naomi’s, named Boaz. Through a series of events guided by custom and divine providence, Boaz becomes Ruth’s husband and a “kinsman-redeemer,” restoring Naomi’s family line and providing a future for Ruth. Their son, Obed, ultimately becomes the grandfather of King David, placing Ruth directly in the ancestry of Jesus Christ. The book beautifully illustrates themes of faithfulness, God’s care for those in need, and the power of selfless love, even for outsiders.
