Chapter Summary
Chapter 25 of Exodus begins God's detailed instructions to Moses for constructing the Tabernacle, a portable sanctuary where God would dwell among the Israelites. It starts by calling for voluntary contributions of various precious materials, including gold, silver, bronze, fine fabrics, and specific woods. The chapter then lays out the precise design specifications for three key items: first, the Ark of the Covenant, a sacred chest to hold the divine law, complete with a gold lid called the Mercy Seat, flanked by two angelic figures; second, a special table for the holy bread offered to God; and third, an elaborate golden lampstand, or menorah, to provide light within the sanctuary. God emphasizes that all these items must be made exactly according to the heavenly pattern shown to Moses on Mount Sinai.
