Chapter Summary

Chapter 22 of Genesis describes one of the most profound tests of faith in the Bible: God's command to Abraham to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac. After a long journey to the land of Moriah, Abraham prepares to obey, demonstrating incredible trust in God. Just as he is about to carry out the act, an angel intervenes, stopping him and revealing that God merely intended to test Abraham's devotion. God then provides a ram as an alternative sacrifice and renews His promises to Abraham, emphasizing the immense blessings for his obedience. The chapter concludes by listing the descendants of Abraham's brother, Nahor, including Rebekah, who will later become Isaac's wife.
