The book of Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament, consisting of only one chapter. It delivers a powerful prophecy, primarily focusing on God’s judgment against the nation of Edom. Edom, descended from Esau (Jacob’s brother), is condemned for its excessive pride and, more importantly, for its malicious actions and indifference towards its relative nation, Judah (descendants of Jacob), during a time of great suffering and invasion. The book declares that Edom will be completely humbled and destroyed for its cruelty. Amidst this judgment, Obadiah also includes a promise of restoration and triumph for Israel, emphasizing God’s ultimate justice and His faithfulness to His people, who will eventually reclaim their land and expand their territory.
