Chapter Summary

Exodus Chapter 34 details the renewal of the covenant between God and Israel after the golden calf incident. Moses is called back to Mount Sinai to carve new stone tablets, upon which God inscribes the Ten Commandments again. During this encounter, God reveals His compassionate yet just character to Moses. The chapter reiterates various laws concerning worship, festivals, and the Israelites' conduct as they prepare to enter the Promised Land, emphasizing exclusive devotion to God and avoidance of pagan practices. Moses spends another forty days and nights with God, returning with a face that glowed with divine light, a visible sign of his communion with the Almighty. He then delivers God's commands to the people, using a veil to cover his radiant face except when speaking directly with God or relaying His messages.
