Chapter Summary
This chapter marks the emotional peak of the Joseph narrative. Joseph, no longer able to hide his true identity, reveals himself to his brothers. He weeps openly, and then reassures his terrified brothers that their past actions, though cruel, were part of God's greater plan to save many lives during the famine. He explains that God sent him ahead to Egypt to become a powerful leader and ensure their survival. Joseph then instructs his brothers to return to Canaan, tell their father Jacob that he is alive and thriving, and bring the entire family to live in the fertile land of Goshen in Egypt. Pharaoh confirms this invitation, promising them the best of the land. The brothers are sent off with wagons, provisions, and gifts. They return to their father Jacob, who is initially in shock and disbelief, but is ultimately filled with joy and hope upon hearing Joseph's words and seeing the evidence of his son's prosperity, resolving to go see him before he dies.
