Chapter Summary

Psalm 59 is a desperate prayer from David asking God for protection from his ruthless enemies who are plotting to kill him. He describes these adversaries as wicked and violent, circling his home like hungry dogs, speaking curses and lies. David insists that he has done nothing wrong to provoke their hatred. He calls on God, the Lord of all nations, to rise up and punish these evildoers, making them an example for the whole world to see God's justice. Despite the immediate danger, David expresses strong faith that God is his fortress and will rescue him, promising to sing praises to God's strength and kindness in the morning.
